i wear a size 8 but have a larger width than most shoes offer. I need so really good running shoes that last a long time.

I would suggest posing your question to customer services at road runner sports. Unlike department stores, this particular store caters specifically to runners. Keep in mind the longevity of a pair of shoes is dependent on the use and frequency of the shoes. As a marathoner, I purchase three pairs of shoes at a time and rotate them throughout the week and use them only when I am running.
The other option is discussing your situation with an orthopedic doctor that have had clients with similar questions such as yourself. Hope this helps.

I found a great pair of Reeboks at Kohl's for wide feet. They are super comfortable.

Asics or New Balance are both good for wide feet.
