You can definately be disconnected from the world if you don't watch TV. My friend doesn't watch any and didn't hear about the North Korean nuclear test.

I learned a LOT of things from T.V., more useful I think than what school used to teach me. Like that there's a country named Yemin and Africa is a continent. You can get anything from T.V..

TV is like alcohol, it is about how much you do.
Actually the people with the set OFF are connected to people, the ones with set on are plugged into the other matrix and are actually disconnected from the real world.
Being off the TV, I get global news and events (on the net) from a much broader spectrum than is on TV. Being off TV, I watch movies free from commercials and I get to see the whole movie, not the one cut to fit & allow lots of commercial time. But I just realized, I am disconnected from the commercials ! Is that really the rest of the world ?

There are people about who don't own a television (thankfully I'm not one lol) there is always radio and you learn things being out and about and talking to people. Probably makes it hard if a group of friends are always talking about programmes and you have no idea what there on about though.
Watching t.v too much is a problem as well because if you never went out you'd have to learn about life through media and soaps and life isn't like that and isolation is bad news.

I don't think so, unless you get disconnected from the rest of the world for being connected to the TV.
Watching TV can be entertaining, informative, educational and fun, but no thing in excess is good.

Too much TV is supposed to be bad for you, but who really knows? I don't think you'd be disconnected from the world if you turned it off, as long as you can get onto the Internet.

"I've got 500 channels of $#!T on the TV to choose from."

Yes and no it depends on what you watch and how long you watch television. If you don't watch television you can stay connected to the world by talking to other people with television
or listen to radio.

Yes TV melts your brain and damages your eyesight.... Have you noticed how patronising tv is? Even on the news when the reporters are saying something it is written down like behind them... Or they're talkin about the mother that killed her baby with salt and they show a close up of salt! I think its safe to say that everyone knows what salt looks like...? Try watching the adverts with mute on and u realise how stupid it is... I hardly ever watch the tv.. The best channel is 'off' Lol

Kate has it right.

When watching TV the brain produces delta waves - only found in dreamless sleep & coma. Most TV watching is like simply pouring those hours down the toilet & flushing.

I don't own a TV - have not had one for 2 years & do not miss it. When I visit my sister's house over the holidays, I am struck by the commercials & the loud light & color show. Glad I don't have one.

One screen (this one) is plenty for my house.

;-)

Yes if you don't really WATCH,its getting to that point in the world were you don't use the TV for anything good, just to kill time, its like when you watch something and forget about what you was watching during the adverts.
