Do you have Comcast. I can troubleshoot this problem.
Make sure her NIC is enabled. (wireless network card)
Plug everything in.

Go into START
RUN
type in CMD and hit ok
Type ipconfig /release
all numbers should be zero's If you get an error message, then email me with the details.

Then close the box, and turn off Router and Modem
Leave off for 1 solid minute
Turn modem on.....DO NOT turn on router yet.

Let modem become fully functional. Meaning all lights are on and steady. Link light won't be on so you will actaully have 3 lights on.
this step may take 45 seconds

Then turn on router. Wait for a minute cause it takes a minute or so before the wireless connection can be established. Just be patient. Go ahead and try to open Internet explorer.

Try disabling firewalls if you have any running.

Let me know if you have any problems.

You need to give more details. Are the security settings on both ends of the wireless link, the Netgear access point and the wireless card in the laptop, the same? Is the wireless interface connected to the expected WLAN (BSSID)? Do you have an IP address on the wireless interface? Windows has a nasty habbit of hooking itself, or trying to hook itself, to any network it detects, regardless of whether it can actually get a working connection.

There are several good suggestions already. Also, be aware that the wireless connection, unlike the wired connection needs to select the connection to the network the first time you connect. The wireless networking utility for the network card will let you see what networks are available and choose to connect.

Are you the two on instantaneous? It sounds like a bandwidth undertaking. you are able to try making beneficial your instantaneous router is a instantaneous N router, and that the two certainly one of your computers have instantaneous N enjoying cards put in. while you're the two using a under pressure connection, i might say to verify you're using a sturdy 100Mbps router, or in all hazard a gigabit router. of direction it ought to be your internet in case you have a sluggish connection, like under a million.5Mbps. i take advantage of cable internet with a 6Mbps and 2 computers on under pressure connection and one one pc i will receive non-provide up at 1Mbps on the same time as gaming on the 2nd pc without lag. using 100Mbps router.

Yeah it is probably something wrong with the wireless settings on your router. Things to check are Encryption types(WPA or WEP), Mac Filter, or the Firewall. Next do the same for the wireless card on the compaq.
