One word - creativity.
some of the most exquisite chefs turn their foods into artistic masterpieces. Take a look at sushi for example. Creating sushi is considered an art form - a very tasty one too! To be a chef, most times you must apprentice - similar to famous artists of long ago. Chefs have frequently been considered artists in their work. Thought and dynamic come into play when making any food. Good luck!

they are both alike in the sense that they both use their imagination. a chef and an artist are given a certain theme and from there it is up to the person to develp, create, detail, as well as to go over the top. they both use whatever they are given: a chef will use all the food he is given to his disposition to mix, chop, dice and garnish to make whatever he is cooking up to his satisfation.a painter will use pait and any other products available to them to make his art to his taste and quality. the both require imagination, style, technique, good quality end results as well they both put the time into what they are doing. they are both creative, innovative, changing in style, as well work hard to achieve what they do.

-----The Chef, a fine cook, does not merely follow the recipe, but creates meals; he is an artist with food and food chemistry. He "paints" with food just as other artists paint with oils and water colors. -----Jim

they both create masterpieces with their respective "tools" and supplies. they both provide something of aesthetic value as well. although of course a chef's 'creation' is edible as well.
