Looks like everybody says about the same thing to you, pretty much find one that you like and go with it. A little bit of inside info for you: Depending on you're exact geographic location, a 25 year shingle will only last approx. 18-22 years! The warranty rating is generalized for all areas. Because they can't manufacture numerous quality ratings of shingles they are all mass produced then distributed. Some people get more years, some less. The higher the waranty rating, the better the shingle. The latest trend is towards architectural shingles though vs the conventional 3-tab shingle you see on most houses. I would recomend using ice & water shield (any brand) to line all the valleys and the edges. This will cost a little more, but you'll be better off in the long run. Remember to check references. Whether it be with other homeowners who had the company you hire or with the BBB. There are far too many people out there that are, dare I say, a little shady! You can save money with the "lone roofer", but will he come back or even have the same phone number in a year when a good storm blows off a few shingles? Something to consider. Good luck.

Contractors usually try to sell you the shingle brand that they promote. Despite their claims, they're all about the same. The differences come into play not by brand but by warranty time. The 30 year shingle is generally thicker and heavier than the 20. Also, architectural shingles are generally more desirable for appearance. Unless you live in Hurricane Alley, it won't matter as much because you should have your home reroofed every 20 years, give or take.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.
Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.
My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

You are going to want something that has atleast a 30 year warranty or more, best brand I think is owens-corning, I worked in retail for five years and I have never had anyone come back with a problem with their shingles. Stay away from other brands like castlebrook, and Iko though, have had disputes with them before.

I recommend asphalt shingles. They come in lots of different colors now, and last a very long time! Make sure you get a warranty and a known contractor.

I recommend that Tamko Architectural Shingles. I had my house done with them, and I love them. They look so much better than traditional shingles, and have a 30 year warranty. Not much more expensive than traditional shingles!
Good luck.

If you are talking about wood shingles, rethink your decision. Wood shingles can be a fire hazard. Flying brands from a nearby fire can ignite the roof. If your house catches fire, shingles can become airborne and travel to other houses.
I installed a lightweight metal roof. Expensive, but resists fire, and has a 50 year guarantee
