buy a ti-89. it's faster that way. if u need to show work, you gotta use the "log" method.

3^2 = 9
9x = 5
x =5/9

Use logarithms.

log(3^(2x)) = log(5) = 2x * log(3)
2x = log(5)/log(3)

I agree with answerman, just some addition, x is around 0.7326

3^(2x) = 5

2x * ln(3) = ln(5)

2x = (ln(5))/(ln(3))

x = (ln(5))/(2ln(3))

x = (ln(5))/(ln(3^2))
x = ln(5)/ln(9)

ANS : (ln(5))/(2ln(3)) or (ln(5))/(ln(9))
