Ok, easy reboot, pres F8 key to go to windows startup options, click on the safe mode, log on with the Administrator account. After in go to control panel, then users, than reset password, or delete password. I am a PC Tech and need to do this to get into peoples computers almost every day because the fools just drop it off and cant tell me the password to get in. When the other ppl said go into the BIOS, that is if your forgot the startup password not a windows account password.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

Taking the battery out does nothing. Removing the CMOS battery will only if your lucky remove the Bios password if one was set. Your only hope is IF your were not using the administrator account is to log into that administrator account and change the user password. Otherwise you are looking at a reinstall and you will lose everything.

FYI -- Password info is not kept in the bios/setup. The "master password" would be the bios password and that will not unlock a user account nor the adminstrator account.

Power the computer up and hit the F8 key repeatedly and go into "Safe Mode". Once your in there, go to the "Control Panel", "User Accounts" and change the password there, then restart the computer and use the new password.

I am not sure how to fix it (sorry) but I do have a suggestion for future times. Create an account called "admin" or something and create a password for it. Than never use it but if you ever forget the password you can log into "admin" and change it from there.

Try going into BIOS (when windows is starting press F2). There MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT be a master password and password info in there. If not you have to reformat.
