USA schools do teach World History and Current Events, encompassing Imperialism, Communism, Socialism, and other "Isms". Unfortunately, elementary, middle school, high school, and even college students, are not enthusiastic, concerned, or interested in events that occurred, or are occurring, in The U. S., much less Central America.

As a 20+-year retired teacher, and now a substitute, I can assure you most students concentrate on the next football game, basketball game, field trips getting them off campus, next keg party, or raiding their parents' medicine cabinet.

Do I fault these young people? No! When I was in high school and college, I wasn't overly concerned with the situation in Korea. When I became a young teacher in the mid-60's, I was not knowledgeable or aware of the issues in Viet Nam, even though my teachers had lectured on these subjects.

Teachers are akin to parents. The teacher's responsibility is to teach their subject to the best of their ability. A parent's responsibility is to provide a safe and nurturing home for their children; hopefully instilling a precept of humanitarianism and moral accountability.

Ha! They don't even teach about the founding fathers any more. School kids routinely flunk history exams when they ask basic American history questions like which came first, the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution?

I wish they'd teach both American and world history, warts and all!

Don't think so... there was none. The schools are bad, but that's one piece of false info that hasn't been taught.
