Hell yes. When I was in the US Army some of the best troopers were gay guys & gals. Of course they obeyed the code of conduct that everyone follows. The government should stop making liars out of gays just to serve and protect this country.

First off...we don't want to fall like Greece and Rome did. Lasting centuries then crashing doesn't sound like where we want to go. Many can use the argument about men/boys as a contributor to a society with less morals that fell.
Now,, just responding . I am not against gays in the military. 90% as someone said? Not believable but if it is at the current supposed 10% as mirrors the US population its still a lot. If it is true that the US is 10%gay lets call the military 15% and prob 5-10% more based on the undecided. Just for the sake of argument.
At the moment gays are still outnumbered by straights. Straights that are by and large unaccepting overall of open homosexuality.
Until the actual environment in macho situations is more acceptable, it poses a physical risk to those involved. I have family members in the military. As all of you probably know, the military does not expose all the homophobic "hate" incidents in the military. Yes they should be permitted to be open but at the moment with so many at risk and the added stress of war, we are not ready to deal with this openly. Maybe non military are in liberal places, the NYCs, San Frans, and Miamis, but the majority of the ENLISTED personnel are high school graduates from small towns across the south and middle America. Not the most tolerant places overall. We as a society have a way to go still. It will take one step at a time. I am sure it will happen oneday. Let's hope when it does the safety of those involved will be more secure.

People are not tolerant enough yet. I have no problem with it but some people do, especially in the military. We shouldn't risk safety of people for politically correctness. In the end it would be a problem to have people being openly gay on the battlefield because of a few reasons. Fair enough gays want the right to do what ever anyone else can but hetros also have the right not to be looked at in the nude by a gay man-it is basic human rights people need to understand that the cookie crumbles both ways. Such a Grey area. Better to leave it to the military head sheds to handle.

Might as well admit the truth. Even the straight guys in the military have gender issues. I'd imagine 90% of the military is gay. Those ultra-straight guys that hate liberals have got something wrong with them. A lot of them constantly are trying to prove their manhood. What do they want exactly? Never trust anyone who is adamant about being a "man." Normal men don't care about that.
Better yet, give the gays a break, and kick them out of the military. Let the macho types die.

To Jakob the Liar:
Actually, in the Ancient Greek culture, it was taboo to use boys who had not reached puberty, but once they hit puberty, they were no longer considered "under age" and it was perfectly normal in their society for men to be with younger boys.
Sorry to debunk your argument, but you made it sound like the Greeks were raping little children when really it was just how their society was.

are you able to be a real christian in case you do not have self belief in slavery or that victims shouldn't marry their rapists. Why are you interior the militia whilst Jesus tells you to tutor the different cheek, no longer annihilate different peoples and combat wars that are actually not even protective? O_o

Those ancient Greeks also used underage boys as their sex partners. So, should our military do the same? Think about your little attempt at an argument there.

I do not think they are allowed to show sexual preferences while in uniform. What they do away from the military installation is their own business.

I think that its bullshit that you have to hide your sexuality to be in the service... Why should it matter, does it make you any less qualified?
