Naw, of course not! I. Its starting too early that sucks. Just make sure he has a good arm, and good accuracy. That's mainly all you need in baseball. Also you can add batting as well.

Realistically..... Yes, if he hasn't played before. If he were to play on a city league team, sure he would be able to play. As far as playing on a JV or a Varsity team in high school, very doubtful unless he has some serious skills already developed. I played baseball for 13 years and I knew some badass 9th grade ball players. A lot of kids like myself, had been playing since they were old enough to walk. I had serious skills at 8 years old. Of course anything is possible if he works hard enough. He may be a natural and not even know it. Good luck to him..

No way. I didn't play for my HS until 11th grade and I got a college scholarship and even played in the minor leagues. It's never too late to start playing the greatest game on earth! He needs to learn quickly though. Does he have good athletic skills? Is he fast? Can he throw the ball well? If he has any of these skills, he should be able to make the team.

I think it maybe a little late. If he is a really good natural player I don't see why he could not try out for his team. You could help out with his fielding and his bat. Go to the batting cages and hit with the slower machine speeds. Go to park and hit him grounders and fly balls. He needs to throw a lot and strengthen his throwing arm. But he needs to remember that most these kids have been playing competitively since around the age of 6 yrs old.

It really does depend how good he is. But if he is that serious about joining the 9th grade team then I think he should go for it.

Not at all. Infact some great talent that has played baseball started late in career. Encourage!

Wasn't there a guy who didn't even play college ball, but made it to the NBA via tryouts?
No, it's not too late. Have him talk to the coach, and let the coach figure out how to handle this. Quite frankly, it's a crap shoot when it comes to coaches, and I wish him luck.
