Authoritarian governments: Think a general/dictator/strongman person running the show, making all the decisions. Elections are rigged to keep the person in power. All laws are rubber-stamped by a puppet legislative body (if there is one), and justice is a joke. Examples of this type: Panama under Noriega in the 1980s and 1990s, present day North Korea, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, present-day Cuba, present-day Venezuela (as if their elections are not rigged!)
Democratic governments: Think a popularly-elected president that has to run all his decisions past a legislative body (congress), and is overseen by a judicial body (Supreme Court). Examples: United States, UK, France, Canada, South Africa, India,

There really are no 'democratic' governments. Socialists get into power claiming to be for democracy then create dictatorships.
A Democracy cannot survive long.
Our nation is a Republic and our constitution requires it remain a Republican form of government to protect us from the tyranny of 'democracy'.
Our Republican form of government requires that the Federal Government fight internal violence or rebellions, defend the borders, protect our Rights... all against the will of the Majority if need be.
