A thermometer works according to a temperature measured. As the temperature rises, the readings go up and if the temperature is low, it go down.
In case of clinical mercuric thermometer, the mercury expands and flows up the tube as the temperature rises. The mercury is forced up through the constriction by the force of the expansion. The body temperature is rarely below 35 and can go up rarely to 42 thus the readings in thermometer is within such degrees celsius. Clinical thermometers are designed within the ranges of body temperatures which is between35 and 42 degrees celsius that is why the reading degrees it can give is just within those ranges.♥

Clinical thermometers may be graduated in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade (celsius). The normal body temperature orally on the centigrade scale is 37.5 C. Many countries use celsius and well as the metric system, however the US and England and some other places use traditional measurements where the metric system is based on 1,10,100 and 1,000 and is more useful than remembering odd numbers i.e. 16 ounces equals a pound. A kilogram can be divided in 1/100th part or 1/1000ths part. Normal temperature is 37.50, febrile states are seldom over 40 C. Hypothermic temperature is seldom below 35, thus the thermometer range is within the usual range for patients.
