My son was on cereal at 3 weeks..and did great...Daughter could not tolerate any solids till 6 months..babies are different.. if she is content on formula alone..stay with it. if not try the rice cereal ,,,a little mixed in the bottle. Also Dr told me that if you try a new food today..do not add another new one for 5 days..that way if a certain food disagrees with baby you will know what it is.

Usually four months is too young to start on baby food. If your baby can not sit up on her own and is not watching you intently when you eat even reaching for your food or fork she is not ready for solid food . If your Dr gave you the go ahead to try you should start with rice cereal and start with a few spoonfuls. Baby is not getting her main nutrition from solids at this point. Remember that her tummy is still only the size of her fist, so she can not eat too much at once. Maybe you should call your Dr to double check advice as well.

I personally think she's too young for baby food from a jar. When mine were that young I fed them rice cereal for babies maybe twice during the day. After about six months I'd start mixing a spoonful or two of baby food in with it.
My doctor was also very adament about no cows milk, eggs or honey until they were older than a year.

What sort of milk are we talking about here? Anything but formula or breastmilk is just bad.
She's probably not used to the food. Give her time to get used to the change before you go for it.
It's interesting that your doctor said to give her baby food. We were told to give our child rice cereal at 4 months, baby food at 6 months.

It hurts her stomach because 4 month olds aren't supposed to have solid foods. Your doctor while probably well intentioned is stuck in the stone age. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization have all come out in support of remaining solid-free until six months. Until then, breastmilk (or formula, if that's your basis of feeding) should be the only nutrients they receive.

it can make them gassy- when mine were ready to have something more than the breast or the bottle, I started them with rice baby cereal mixed with formula or breast milk, they then moved on to baby applesauce, sweet potatoes and squash. If she is spitting it out and refusing to eat then stop. You didn't mean you were giving her cows milk?? that screws up more kids than almost anything *L* but I'm sure you didn't. You will know..she is your lovey..you will learn what she likes and how much. (and doctors don't know everything *L*, go with what your inner mom voice is telling you)

i might watch for a minimum of a few greater weeks in the previous including the rest to his meals habitual. the in many cases used for commencing a toddler on any solids, alongside with rice cereal, is 6 months. yet each and every determine makes that determination on their own. save him on the rice cereal for a whilst. Rice cereal is often straightforward to digest and babies are much less probably to be allergic to it so because it rather is why docs recommend it as a common meals. in the event that they don't get a style for the rest, they gained't be attentive to what they are lacking.

if she is ready to eat then the food shouldnt cause her tummy pain unless she has an allergy to it of course, its hard to feed her too much as i am finding with my 5 month old, if he's had enough he'll just start poking it out with his tongue, he stops opening his mouth with excitement when the spoon comes near him then i know hes had enough
