i've had people tell me midnight and noon, but i've read differently, so i wanted to make sure

And to repeat her answer to the previous question, when the moon reaches last quarter, it rises as sunset and sets at noon because it is 18 hours behind the sun

Similarly, during the new moon, the moon rises with the sun and sets with the sun because it is lined up between the earth and the sun. That's why it is dark.

At first quarter it rises at noon and sets at midnight because it has fallen 6 hours behind the sun.

At full moon, it rises at sunset and sets at sunrise because it is 12 hours behind the sun.
