First of all, it's not an equation (no = sign), it's an "expression". The steps for simplification are:
Given: -6(x-y)+2(x+y)-3(x+2y)
1. -6x+6y+2x+2y-3x-6y
2. -6x+2x-3x+6y+2y-6y
3. -7x+2y
Remember that when multiplying unlike signs, the product's sign is "minus" - when multiplying like signs, the product's sign is "plus".

-7 + 2y
First, you have to distribute the numbers out side the perenthesis.
For example: -6 has to be multipied by x and -y. so it will be:
-6x+6y. Then the two. you will get: 2x+2y. Lastly, -3. -3 times x equals -3x. then -3 times 2y equals -6y.
Second, Put everything together!
Your problem should now read:
-6x + 6y + 2x + 2y - 3x - 6y
Now add and subtract everything that is alike. (everything with the same variables)
-6x + 2x = -4x
-4x - 3x = -7x
so -7x is the first part of your answer.
6y + 2y = 8y
8y - 6y = 2y
so 2y is the last part of your answer.
2y is really +2y, so your answer is:
-7x + 2y

Multiply out the numbers. So you get
-6x - -6y + 2x + 2y - 3x + 6y
anywhere you have minus a negative, make it plus. You can take it from there. Combine like terms.
