I thought this was such a good movie - just saw it for the first time this week. I can't believe how good the acting was for a movie 30 yrs old. The script was amazing as well - how the writer was able to portray this woman's story with such compassion. I am still in awe of the abuse this poor woman suffered - it's just incredible to me that she lived through it.

I read the book when it first came out. I could not believe that the doctor sensed that something bad was being done to that child, but said nothing about it. Unfortunately back during the days that Sybil was a child, the saying was: What goes on behind closed doors is nobody's business." Some still feel that way.
I saw the movie when it first came out and recently saw it again. The acting by Sally Field was amazing. Joanne Woodward was great playing the psychiatrist. The real psychiatrist must have been great to break through all those personalities.
I hope Sybil's parents are both burning in hell, her for causing the physical pain and him for being blind to it. He had to have at least suspected something.

Hey, what do you mean 'how good the acting was 30 years ago'?
One day you will be over 30. Not all of us "old folks" are out of the picture yet. Most of the great actors ARE over 30 or dead.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy more of the 'arts' from that era.
