Probably some counseling/therapy for the family. Usually when someone runaways, it has to do with something at home that happened like abuse, or sexual orientation, or something at school. Anyone who runaways usually do it to run from danger or to rebel/revolt against their family. Probably they have to serve some community service or time at juvenile hall. Running away isn't a crime. It's more like a misdemeanor even in any state. If they committed a crime when they ran away, then it would count.

It is not against the law to run away at 17 in GA ( unless they have changed the law in the last few years)

If he stole thier car, or stole money from them, that is a seperate issue. I had a 17 in GA run off and the police would not even file a police report since that was the legal age to move out from home in GA if a child wanted to.

so he needs an attorney, since they should not even be doing charges, if he merely walked away or went with some friends.

next if he is considered a minor in GA now ( they have changed the laws since I lived there) he could be declared a deliquent by the juvinele court. and could be put into a boot camp or juv detention till 18 but that is the worst, normally they just put them on probation and send them home.

There has to be more to this story ???

It's typical that some probationary period will need to be served, along with court costs. No jail time, if runaway was the only crime involved.
