I'm very picky when it comes to music & movie taste, religion, etc... Sometimes I wish I didn't think about things so much. It affects freindships and some people find me smart when it comes to those areas and often envy me. How can overcome this? I feel as if I have high expectations when it comes to friends who do not share the same tastes as myself and it bores me. How can I lower my expectations?

Whatever you do don't have any children until you change your tune! You will ruin their lives for sure.

Picky, preconceived ideas, not much room for learning. You need to listen and learn. I would imagine you bore your friends and they are merely playing it smart by patronizing you so you will go away and hopefully leave them alone. I assure you, your friends do not envy you and as you grow older they will become less interested in being tolerant of you. What makes you think that what you think is better than what other people think? Maybe you have bad taste. Maybe you are the bore. Maybe others are kind and lower their expectations to accept you into their lives because they are good people and you are undeserving. You are pathetic, really. I can't imagine how anyone can be so stupid.

Does that help? Because that is clearly how you come off. You need to take a good look at your self in the mirror! Your not all that! Best you figure that out before you don't have any friends.

You know that's so funny. I don't think so much unless I have a reason to. But your post reminds me of someone who used to say to me, when I ever disagreed with them, "You think you've got all of the answers don't you" analyze THAT one! lol And this person is one of the most hypocrital, insecure, lying and manipulative people I have ever met. Everyone has an opinion. Just tell them whatever they want to hear sometimes if it bothers you what they think, then find an excuse not to be around them. Hey, it's not like their opinion is going to ruin your life, right? As someone once told me, a friend is someone you don't have to explain yourself to, and someone you have to consistently explain yourself to, is no friend, and won't listen to you anyways.

I don't think you should lower your expectations - but I do think that you should recognize that the beliefs and preferences of other people are neither more nor less valid than your own. If you have self-respect, then the values of others will not change that. If you lack self-respect, then you can denigrate people forever without gaining it.

This is not about lowering expectations but about realizing that your opinion is just an opinion not a fact.

I feel your pain. Just try not to get worked up when your having a discussion. That used to be my problem. Now I respect the opinion of others, and if it's really stupid.....find new friends. :)
I just can't do stupid.

Sometimes you have to choose being happy over being right. Nobody's perfect. You should turn your amazing analytical power inward and argue yourself into someone who is more at peace with those he encounters and less quick to judge.

Dont think of an answer when the other is talking, always debate the opposite of what you believe.

It is perfectly alright to have opinions and to be choosy in life, so long as you make room for the opinions and choices of others!
