I have a garage constructed of cinder blocks on a concrete slab. There are gaps in the wall where the cinder blocks are separating from each other allowing rain to be blown into the garage. What is the best way to repair this problem? I am looking for a permanent repair, not a quick fix.

go to lowes-home depot or like, ask for a wall sealer that has fiberglass in the mix....lowes brand is sur-wall........mix it like pan cake batter and apply with ur hands with rubber gloves ( will not hurt u but the gloves save ur hands from the rough block)..u can then trowel it to give stucco look or smooth it out and paint....i have used it many times and works great.......

This happens when the mortar dries out and weathers.Perhaps the mix had too much sand or too much water. The repair of it is called "chinking". When you find gaps in concrete blocks or crumbling mortar, you need to clean the dust and dirt out of the cracks before reapplying mortar. It doesn't need to be complicated. You can use a concrete patch product, located at home improvement stores, for this too.A dry paint brush or a vacuum cleaner hose will clean it sufficiently. Then apply the patch with a trowel. This activity is what's known as "chinking". The term is also used in the building of log homes. It's a job you want to do right the first time because it's tedious.Good luck!

The best way to repair it would be to go to your local hardware store and get some mortor ( not concrete). Mix it in a large container ( like a wheel barrow) and then fill in your gaps with it. It will harden and be a permanent fix.

What you will need is:
60 pound bag of morter ( maybe 2)
large container
something to mix it with
water
and a trowel ( i think that's what it's called.)

I recently rebuilt part of my garage because the wooden frame rotted away on the bottom. I replaced the bottom with cinderblocks and then built a frame on top of that. It is now weather proof. Hope this helps!

Installing vertical rebar and filling with concrete might help. Whoever built that wall should have used horizontally placed rebar in the blocks. That way it would be strengthened along the wall and not just a section. Doing it your way is better than not having any rebar at all.

is the foundation failing? causing wall to "slide?"anytime a wall "splits"?there has to something causing stress on wall?sideway pressure is usually a crack on the 4th or 5th row of block, like in a basement?has anyone hit the front of garage in the door or frame? you might try a piece of angle or bedrail bolted thru wall on both sides to hold and stop widening of crack then remortar and watch the crack for more damage?small cracks can be filled with mortar patch similar to latex caulk?

either repair with mortor or for smaller cracks use silicone sealant in a tube
