Newer mobile homes are made of regular materials. The older ones are a little different. The best things about mobiles are that u can gut all the inter. walls and build it like u want it. In some places if your home in on a slab and tied down with a brick skirt it becomes "real property" and will act as a stick built when it comes to resale. Check into the rules before u spend to much money. I have done lots of them and its not that hard.

Yes you can! Alot depends on the year/model of the home. I drywalled a 1973 mobile home but I had to take out interior walls because the were made with paneling stapled to furring strips 3/4 inch wide. Any home can be remodeled with time and effort....even an old mobile home. By the way....the home did'nt creak when the wind blowed because it was stiffer with the drywall!

Yes you can but before you do, consider the cost of the remodel and how much youre willing to spend on a depriciating item, Manufactured homes will depriciate in value even if they are fixed foundation and remodeled, if you want to invest in your home consider maybe adding on and removing the moble home part.

Yes, a lot of good tips here. You will run into some special situations due to different construction methods than a typical stick built home, but sure. Don't know what you have in mind. My suggestion is don't throw too much money at it. I'm sure you know, mobile homes don't appreciate, they depreciate. (Even new stick built homes aren't doing well, right now) Don't borrow money, and realize that any improvements probably won't yield as much money at resell as the cost of materials you put into into it.

I'm in the same situation, I have been getting good tips from HGTV.com, and the sell this house type shows. I also bought some magazines, but I think we have to be a bit more careful, because for mobile homes to cost so much, they aren't made of anything! Good luck to you, maybe when can trade tips and suggestions.

It would be cheaper to build a new house. You basically want to build a knee wall on top of the existing walls. The roof will have to be dismantled and subsequently re-erected on top of the knee wall. You will have to re-side, re-roof, and re-drywall, of course. It's a big project. If money is no object (as you claim), just build a new house on the site and ditch the double-wide. I've actually done this kind of thing before. It never looks right.

Yes, but prepare yourself for a lot of aggravation. Often the building materials used in mobile homes do not meet the standards of regular home-building materials.
