I repair Macs, PCs and run Linux on my 74 X86 systems (133mhz to 2.0Ghz), and have 6 Macs (6100CD thru iMac Graphite 700)running OS9 thru OS10.3.9. I have built, repaired, serviced, computers since 1965. Spent 20+ in the USAF.
The Mac Pro now comes with 2Gb RAM, stock. It beats the Dell Dimension 450 that is exactly equipped, by $1,000 (In the Magazine comparisons, both machines came with 1Gb RAM).
The Mac benchmarks a lot faster than the Dell (exactly equally fitted out), simply because OS X is properly designed, with a kernel that is smaller by 5X than the Microsoft XP system folders. The difference is due to sleek functionality.
The mechanical superiorities of the Mac are well documented in the newstand magazines that rave about it. None put down the Mac.
The past three issues of Consumer Reports equally rave about the quality of service after they laud the quality of manufacture.
Having two machines that run XP Pro, and one is a dual boot that rarely leaves Linux, I do full repairs and upgrades of those, and other than the testing for compatibility, I wouldn't have a Microsoft product if you gave it to me.

If you are getting into any AMD 64 bit X2 system, you had best get the FREE Ubuntu http://ubuntu.org because Linux has been 64 bit since 1993, so is mature, and has true 64 bit apps, while Microsoft XP 64 is broken, badly, and can only offer some puny 32 bit crapware. Ubuntu is FREE, including FREE post!

Oh, and all MS products ARE vulnerable to the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions" whether 32 or 64 bit! Not to forget, all the Trojans, bots, pops, malwares, adwares.
So, MAC PRO duo is #1.
A white box or home built GNU/LInux AMD 64X2 is #2
Overpriced by at least $1,000, the Dell would be #3, as that worthless Microsoft XP virus magnet just plain suck$, and would be tossed into the garbage like it should always be. VISTA will fail in a worse way.
I already own EIGHT 32 bit Dells, that were given to me for FREE, and run great, once I installed http://pclinuxos.com !
Microstop XP virus magnet is the reason they were dumped by their owners. Zog, I love Microsoft, for pissing off so many naive users who toss such excellent hardware my way!

It does not matter what your doing, get the Mac. Only the Mac can run all PC software, all Linux software, and all Mac OS X software. Mac quality is higher, customer satisfaction is higher, and there are no known Mac viruses or spyware. Macs also cost less than comparably equipped Dells, so there really is no contest!
Dari P, the MacPro is not a G5! It uses two Intel Dual Xeon processors for a total of 4 of Intel's fastest cores. With that much power a graphics card is just an after thought, even for gaming!

Oh it does matter what you are doing, it matters. For example, if you are a gamer, get a PC, period. Macs don't game, not because of the OS, so don't tell me about bootcamp. Macs just don't have the hardware for it. The iMac has a laptop processor in it, don't be fooled by the Core 2 Duo name, it is the laptop version. And the best video card you can get on the iMac still isn't a power gaming card. If you step up to the G5, you will end up paying in the range of $4000 to configure it for gaming, and a $2500 Dell could game just as well.
Now, aside from gaming, if you are doing videos or other media related stuff like that, go with Mac as their software is better. For just general surfing and Internet, it is up to personal preference.

greater merchandising, a greater effective merchandising team, user-friendly layout, homogeneity. computing device is in actuality any pc not a mac, and of direction they're going to run the gamut in high quality/fee/layout. as a result the only venture that Macs incredibly have over each and every computing device is they might run Apple proprietary application. there is likewise a picture venture that i'm noticing with Macs. by way of their branding and merchandising Macs are pointed out as "cooler" than their computing device counterpart particularly subcultures. i'm considering assorted you placed down 'virus unfastened' as between the optimal execs of a mac. That although has to do with the Unix based working device run on the Mac incredibly than the Mac itself. If computing device clientele are so prone, they might additionally get a plague unfastened working device in between the various Linux flavors.

There's no question about it... if you want better technology for a decent price, you HAVE to go Mac. (Once you go Mac, you NEVER go back!) Mac's run faster, work better, and have little risk of viruses and NO risk for adware and spyware. Me personally, I like the iMac... but some ppl like Macbook, Mac Mini, and the ever more popular G5, or better known as the Mac Pro. There's nothing better then a good Mac running in any room of your house. (Of course my husband is a Window/Linux fan so I'm screwed out of my Mac.)
Good Luck on your search!!!

i do wonder why linux has not been mentioned here as could be the best of both worlds. Linux runs like a mac and has an application caled wine that lets you run some windows apps. Mybe run a mac with boot camp installed as it lets you have the best of both worlds.
Up to you

I have a dell desktop and a mac laptop, the mac is way better.
There are more things to do with the mac and way better graphics/pixels. My mac does not stall or freeze, but the dell does often. The mac loads faster than my dell.
I would choose mac. But your choice, hope this helped.

I don't think it's much of a choice! MAC of course! Buy small priced software to run XP and run them both. CAN"T DO THAT WITH A PC!!! divide your hard drive and have the best of both.
