I love biology and will certainly study it in college, I think the problem here is pressure...our age group have so much coursework, revision and all round pressure from our parents, teachers and piers, that most people will take more relaxing subjects. The thing is that the older generation seem to think that we are taking the 'easy' option, but we're not. We simply have more course options and can try different things. The fact is that some people say that A-Levels etc. are getting easier, but they're not. Take my half term for example, Monday-Art coursework all day, Tuesday-Maths, Wednesday-Science, Thursday-visited family, Friday-Geography, Saturday-Geography, Sunday-geography, and I STILL haven't finished it. I'm not saying that it was easier in the past, nor am I saying that it is easier now. However, the course has changed and can't be compared as there is now a great deal of coursework. Overall though, (rant over lol) I cant wait to do Biology in College and many of my friends are considering a science course. Do not fear...Cornwall will have science students lol he-he

From the 'chalkface' and examiners side of the fence I think that many of the interesting (and often hazardous) experiments have been 'banned' because of fears of litigation. The students have less hands-on experience, in chemistry especially, and so find the subject less interesting. Also there is a dire shortage of qualified chemistry teachers so the teacher 'roped in' to take the subject won't have the enthusiasm. Finally the exam and national curriculum has been watered down and there is not the academic challenge. (How do I know - I write the questions!)
