This depends on the species. Scolopendra usually have 42 pairs of legs (thus 84 legs), other species and genera have more or less. The name is a catch-all for any arthropods with modified front legs that form fangs. They are predatory and the venom has been lethal to some humans. Some have only 30 pairs of legs but a few species have as many as 170 pairs of legs. Millipeds (called 1000 leggers) actually have at most 375 pairs of legs). Some tropical centipedes grow about 10 inches long.

unlike the popular beleif of 100 (centi pede does mean 100 leg) it was an overexaduration when it was named,
most have 20 - 48 legs depending on the species

That would depend on the centipede like if it's lost any legs or not and it's length, but definitely not a hundred. They have one pair per body segment.

"Although the word centipede means "hundred-legged," every type of centipede has a different number of legs. The average number of legs on centipedes is 35 pairs (70 legs)."
