Oh man, that is so hard cuz James Dean died so young. Who knows if he woulda had the longevity that Deniro and Nicholson have had .. but I say Nicholson ... DeNiro has more conventional looks and what not to him .. but Jack .. he's just crazy looking and still can pull off any role and get any girl ... way too cool

I would have to choose Jack Nicholson. He can play any role and be marvelous.
DeNiro is second because he is doing so much comedy now and is very funny.
James Dean didn't live long enough for me to form an opinion now, but at the time, he was very very cool. Such a tragic death.

Nicholson gives me the creeps! His face moves in funny ways! I've never really paid that much attention to James Dean but I did like De Niro in Hide & Seek with Dakota Fanning & the woman who plays Jean Gray in X-Men.

Difficult they all had/have charisma.
I would say Jack Nicholson because he can play just everything and I like him as a person, he can be very down to earth.

Uh, this contest is invalid: The coolest of the cool is/was Cool Hand Luke, Paul Newman. Younger years, that is. You've never seen cool until you view "Hombre". Cowboy and Indian cool, now that's pretty tough. Even Elvis couldn't do 'cowboy cool'.
You didn't even mention Steve McQueen.
