A wife testifies in divorce court that her husband hit her, she left the house, walked down the street, and told a police officer her huband hit her, but says the officer refused to help her because she had no ID. Would it be believable that a police officer would refuse to help a woman who says she was hit because she had no ID? Also when asked in court if there were any marks on her she says" I didnt check"

An officer will definitely help, though the woman might be detained afterwards to confirm her ID.

I'm getting a faint smell of fish when reading this story.

No, I don't think a police officer would refuse to help this woman. Unless of course it was a "buddy" of the husband (unlikely).

The court testimony, "I didn't check" doesn't lend credibility to her claim either. If she'd been hit, she should have gotten herself to a police department or hospital (or both) where her "marks" would have been photographed as evidence.

Based on the details you've given ... it's a bit of a stretch.

No, I do not believe this story, the police our obligated to write a report and investigate in most states when there is a suspected case of domestic violence. Any visible marks would automatically be cause to take the husband to jail and charges to be filed. As far as the ID most car's (police cars) are equipped with computers and they can very easily run a social security number. this story is very unbelievable. Good luck and God bless. I worked at a domestic violence agency for several years.

The police officer wouldn't refuse, he/she would have to take her to the local station for questioning & to take down details.
ID could come later & is not entirely necessary as they would've have taken her details and had a photocopoy of her licence the day after.
If she said in court "I didn't check", it could be believable that she never checked, but I think the Medical Officers would check for injuries & take photos for law court purposes.

I do believe this story. I might offend some but in my city she's lucky she didn't get arrested. Abused women must be prepared at all times. The person that stays in the house, gets the house. Always check for marks, always carry ID, and always try to keep a diary of dates of abuse with someone that can be trusted, or keep it at work. Domestic abuse is hard to prove. Sad but true. A good lesson for next time.

no id or not a police officer can get her name and date of birth and all the other information. if the officer did not check for signs of abuse then that officer needs his butt whooped. i have had many people in situations not have ID on them, but i was still able to do a report and go from there. too, the officer could have escorted her back to her residence and got ID from there. you have an inexperienced officer or a lazy officer or a officer who needs her butt whooped. sorry for other officers out there who don't agree. but come on that is our job to investigate and protect and serve.

MY HUSBAND IS A COP SO I KNOW THIS ONE. IF HE REFUSED TO HELP HER BECAUSE SHE DIDNT HAVE ID ON HER THEN SHE NEEDS TO CONTACT A SUPERVISOR. HAVE AT LEAST HIS NAME AND WHAT SHIFT HE WAS WORKING, DAY AFTERNOON OR NIGHT SHIFT. THEY HAVE A PROTOCOL TO SEE ID BUT IT IS REQUIRED AT SOME POINT BECAUSE THEY NEED TO RUN YOU TO FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE ANY PRIOR HISTORY OF VIOLENCE OR AN OUTSTANDING WARRANTS. THIS IS FOR THE OFFICERS PROTECTION, YOU MIGHT BE A PSYCHO WITH A GUN AND THAT WORRIES ME AS A WIFE EACH NIGHT HE IS AT WORK. ALSO IF THERE IS A CALL FOR HELP THERE IS A REPORT TO BE MADE AND ID HAS TO BE HAD FOR THAT. AS FOR THE BRUISING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU EXCEPT SOME PEOPLE BRUISE EASILY, SOME PEOPLE BRUISE THE NEXT DAY BUT AT LEAST A REPORT HAS BEEN MADE OF THE ASSAULT OR BATTERY. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

I can't see any officer turning down a woman - or anyone else, for that matter - in need of help because she didn't have an ID.

Cops are suppose to protect and serve; they would've id'd the guy later after questioning. In other words, no.

That doesn't sound like a true story. There are some jerk cops out there, but I doubt any would do that.
