My memory, far from perfect, keeps replaying a USC v UCLA game where USC won the game on a hail mary pass. Did my memory just make this up or did USC and UCLA play a bowl game against each other around 1970?

I know they played Ohio in the 1969 Rose Bowl. Did they win that with a hail mary pass at end of game? I might have confused it over time as a UCLA game since I was at a friends house who's parents were UCLA alumni. I was just a kid, but that pass really stands out strong.

It is all in your head, USC and UCLA never played against each other in a bowl game in the 70's, it is possible that the game took place in the regular season.

No, in 1970 the Pac 8 Conference only let the conference winner go to a bowl game, the Rose, against the Big Ten winner, so there is no way they played in a Jan 1 bowl game.
