The temperature outside is -6 degrees at 5 pm. If the temperature drops 2 degrees each hour, what will the temperature be at 1 am in the morning?

First thing is to figure out how many hours from 5 pm till 1 am - total of 8 hours. Then multiply 8 by 2, or 16 degrees. Since the temp is dropping, you have to subtract 16 from -6:
-6-16 = -6 + -16 = -22
