can horses eat pumpkins?

the leftovers from pumpkin carving? can they be fed to a horse and how much should they eat?????

I gave him a couple of pieces and he enjoyed them. So we shall see today if its a natural wormer. HAHA Maybe it will worm the dogs too...... they seemed to like the pumpkin too.

Yes horses can eat pumpkins. We have 8 horses, but none of them seem to really like to eat them. Feed them in moderation as you would any type of treat.

Horses should not eat potatoes as someone else stated. Plants, vegetable and fruits of the Nightshade Family are poisonous to horses, this includes potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. DO NOT feed your horses any of these, they usually won't eat them anyhow unless they are starved.

Farmers often feed cows and goats pumpkin and pumpkin seeds, they tell me it is a natural wormer. I'ld be nervous about feeding anything strange to a horse in any but the smallest amount, though, the digestive track is totally different. The wrong thing to a horse and you could give him a case of colic, very uncomfortable, possibly dangerous and expensive, inextreme cases, deadly.

My mum gets old veg from the market for her horses and every year she gets old pumpkins, she gives them the whole lot. one year we ended up with a pumpkin growing on the muck heap and it reached a weight of 15 lb and won second prize in the veg contest at the village fair.

I guess they can horses eat potatoes which have starch and pumpkins contain starches soyeah I suppose they can
