Ear piercing is usually done without painkillers because the piercing itself hurts less than a shot of anesthetic would.
Ear piercing guns cannot be sterilized, which means that it's possible to contract hepatitis or some other infection from them. Most likely you will be fine.
There's also a chance that you will have an allergic reaction to metals after getting your ears pierced. If you develop a rash around the piercing, you'll need to take the earrings out. To avoid this, you can try to make sure that the parts of the earrings that touch your ear are made of surgical steel or 14 karat gold. (This includes not only the posts but the backs as well.) If the rash doesn't subside, you will probably not be able to wear earrings.
The process itself is fast. Best wishes to you.

No, it isn't really painful at all. These days, they do it with an automated gun, so that the earring is pushed through your ear fast. Its all fast and quite clean as the technician does not have to touch it at all. It will feel a bit hot for a while, but it will not hurt too much at all. You may feel a little shocked though. That night, however, make sure to sleep on your back, cause sleeping on your side will push the earring into the pillow which can hurt. Also, keep it clean using antiseptic spray and twist it daily (but ensure you do not get a hair stuck around the post of the earring) so it doesn't get infected, because infections can be really painful. Generally, wait for around 2-3 months before you change your earrings, depending on the time it is taking to heal. When it is healed, there will not be any more residue on the back of the earrings, as either liquid or dried liquid is a sign that the piercing has not healed over. When you first change the earrings, ensure you are using one with a post as thick as the ones your ears were pierced with, so the holes do not shrink. You can use thinner posts later:) I was a tomboy too, so I didn't get earrings until i was 11:) Good luck!

It honestly wasn't that bad... just keep on top of it when you get it... the thing that hurts is an infection. I got my ears, nose, and tongue done in a great place in So Cal that was recommended to me by a friend... but if you feel more comfortable doing it in a hospital.. go for it. Accessories are a girls best friend =). Hope this helps

Only a little painful, the fatty part of the ear doesn't have a lot of nerve endings and if you keep it clean it won't really hurt much. Wal Mart and Jewelry stores are fine to have it doen at.

I had my ears pierced when I was 10,and I pierced my daughter's ears when she was 6 months old. There is a little discomfort, but an antibiotic cream will help and ensure you don't get an infection.I love earrings! Good luck!
