And are blades the same thing that Americans call 'cleats'?

Blades are pretty much what Americans call cleats.

Blades have ben researched by the likes of Nike and Addidas to give better grip on grass in all conditions. Studs are still a good option but if you have the money and play on grass all year then blades are your best option.

If you play on Grass and Astroturf then go for moulded studs rather than the screw in type.

I would say studs.

I broke my ankle badly playing football 2 seasons a go with bladed boots on. I caught one of the blades on the turf and my ankle snapped. Having watched a video of the game it has been confirmed the injury was more than likely due to wearing bladed boots

It all depends on you I prefer studs but it's what you feel comfier in if you wear blades you can get away without buying two pairs because you can wear them when the ground is dry. Many years ago cica made a pair of boots called mud runners the were great in any weather conditions and they were comfortable to I wish they still made them because I would buy them again

It depends on what type of ground you play on if its astrotruf then studs but if its natural grass then blades are the best option

studs. but depends on surface being played on.
I find blades are more dangerous than studs.
If you were an England player I would suggest sponge studs!!!
as they would be useless too !!!
