When I had my period almost two weeks ago, I used Tampax Fresh Scent tampons. After about one or two days, I begin having a bad itch and eventually the itch began turning into pain. Thinking maybe it was just a yeast infection, I kept using the tampons. On the fourth day, I woke up to find bumps on the outside of my vagina, on the labia and on the inside near the opening. It also stung very badly when I urinated. My labia also became very swollen and painful. I stopped using the tampons on that time, but only now, a week later, are my symptoms subsiding. There is only tenderness left and the bumps are dried up and healing. I know this is graphic and may even seem gross, but has this ever happened to anyone else?

All tampons pose an increased risk of infections and can cause irritation due to their function [preventing vaginal cleaning, absorbing discharge, fibre loss, providig environment for bacterial growth].

Commercial tampons like Tampax contain chemicals that are used to unnecessarily bleach tampons that are harmful to the vagina in changing vaginal pH, cause irritation, cause allergic reactions and make their way into the body• that may cause health problems throughout the body.

•Tampon manufacturers are protected by law so they do not have to disclose chemicals used, they could easily be a cancer risk.

Scented tampons are the next step up, again more unnecessary chemicals that can cause serious vaginal health problems, irritation and infection, essentially the same risks of commercial tampons but increased as there are more chemicals present to cause problems.

Perfume can contain anywhere between 60-100 different chemicals, many of which are skin irritants that can cause allergic reactions and irritation, bare in mind also that your vagina is made up of mucosa, similar to skin but without the top protective layers so far more delicate and sensitive to chemical sensitivity.

Play it safe, if you are going to use tampons over safer and more hygienic options such as sanitary pads, free-flow methods or menstrual cups, then stick to organic tampons, sponge tampons or homemade tampons – natural materials and no chemicals – so lower risk of irritation, allergic reactions, toxic shock syndrome, vaginal infections, fibre loss, vaginal splitting, endometriosis, menstrual cramps, increased menstrual flow, etc.

Yes. You might have a "sensitivity" and not an allergy to whatever is in the scent. The most common sensitivities are aloe vera & lavendar. Soy and laytex are also high on the list. Get an allegry test, both the blood & hair & the needle ones, and see what you need to avoid.

It never happened to me but I've heard this from many women. Your symtoms were pretty extreme even though they're sudsiding now...you waited a whole week in this condition? I still think you should discuss it with your gyno, or better yet his nurse practitioner...they have more time to spend with you & can akso do an exam.
