I know you can tell the baby's gender via ultrasound around 16 weeks... but sometimes takes a little longer. Well my question is when did you find out the gender of your baby, and was it a boy/girl? I'll be 17 weeks 2 days on my ultrasound next week, and hubby and I are dying to find out!

I found out when I was abotu 15 weeks...and then the tech 'reassured' me at my 20 week ultrasound (level2 scan)...we are havign a boy...no questions!

Before you go to your appointment, try drinking some caffine (a soda...coffee...etc...), as this will make the little one a bit hyper and moving around more. Caffine is somethign you have to watch your intake of during pregnancy, but it wont hurt the baby (or you) in moderation...meaning, they say it is safe to have up to 5 cans of soda a day and 3 cups of coffee...so seriously drink somethign with caffine and the baby will be moving around more, and you will have a better chance of seeing 'the goods'!
My doctor also told me to do this, so it is totally safe!

Good luck and congrats!!!

I found out at 19w 2d, the doctor in my clinic won't do it any earlier than 19 weeks because the babies genitals do not start developing until around 16 weeks. There is a video about it in Discovery Health. So if it is a boy it takes about 3 to 4 weeks after the 16th week for the penis to be fully developed. Also it depends on how much fluid there is around the baby and what is the position of the baby. If there is not enough fluid it will be really hard to see and the babies at this stage of pregnancy are very unpredictable on which position they will be in. My baby was in a very good position and the shot at the genitals was great, the tech could tell us right away what it was, we are having a baby boy!. Remember, we are all anxious to know but don't be disappointed if they can't tell you at 17w, usually they can't and if they do it is always 50-50. It is always better to wait until around 20w or very close to 20w. Good luck.

I was exactly 24 weeks 3 days when we found out we were having a Boy. But mentally I already knew it was a boy due to all the "old wives tale" signs. Such as carrying low, fetal heart rate you know the drill.

We were having ultrasounds twice a month from 14 weeks til 26 weeks. Then weekly {sometimes twice weekly} from 27 weeks til I delivered him a month early due to be extremely high risk for preterm labor.

Congrats and good luck

Maybe look at it this way - before the ultrasound, it was a 50/50 chance for boy/girl, and now with the technician's unwanted comments, the probability has changed to maybe 70/30 for boy/girl. The odds have changed perhaps but no one knows for sure (including the technician). Our ultrasound technician tried to figure out as well at 12-13 weeks (we wanted to know) but despite repeated efforts, she couldn't. At 18 weeks, we were able to find out sex of the baby (it is a boy).

We got a 3d ultrasound-elective so we paid out of pocket- to see our little baby. It was really a great experience. The family was there and it was alot of fun. I was 25 weeks pregnant at the time. It was plain to see that it was a boy. We had doubts because sometimes you can never be too sure. But it was a boy, all 8lbs and 7 oz of him!
