you want only 4/5 of 1 ton, so you are ordering 4/5
to find out what 1/3 is of 4/5, simply multiply like such:

(4 * 1) / (3 * 5) = 4/15

in other words, simply multiply the numerator(top) of the two fractions together and the denominator(bottom) of the two fractions together to make one new fraction

The English word "of" in a sentence of a Maths problem should alert you to expect to do a multiplication.

The amont of sand he wants is 1/3 x 4/5 of a ton.

Multiply out the numerator (numbers on top)

Multiply out the denominator (numbers on the bottom)

1 x 4 divided by 3 x 5

= 4/15

He wants 4/15 of a ton of sand delivered now.

"Of" in math often means multiply. Here, multiply 4/5 by 1/3 to see what fraction of a ton he will receive. That is 4/15 ton.

He wants 4/5 tons
He wants 1/3 of 4/5 tons
1/3 x 4 will give you 4/3.
Then it is (4/3)/5.
This is exactly equal 4/(3x5).
Therefore he wants 4/15 tons of sand.

"of" means mutiply. so u want 1/3 of 4/5. that means 1/3 x 4/5. multiply the numerators (top#s) by each other. and multiply the denominators (bottom #s) by each other. then just put the division line between the two #'s. u should have 4/15 of a ton.

hope that helps.
