It sounds to me like you hate the WAY you celebrate Christmas, and maybe not the actual holiday itself. There is a great little book called "Unplug the Christmas Machine." You might want to check it out; it may help you see Christmas in a whole new way.

How pathetic! If you hate it, don't participate and just let it go by. Or, for the sake of your kids, you could find some true meaning in Christmas and put all the negative stuff aside. Teach them to find the good in any situation. Christmas is the best time of the year. Maybe you could make Christmas simple this year and don't spend any money, and instead of wasting food, you and your kids could spend the day feeding the homeless at a soup kitchen. It isn't supposed to be about money and food. It is supposed to be about love and giving of ones self, in what ever form you want that to be.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Savior, when God came near. Surely you can find some good in it and share it with your kids.
I hope and pray that you all have a very Merry Christmas this year, despite how you feel right now.

When I was younger it was the anticipation. The tree was great because it was real and the decorations. But, unfortunately I was later traumatized when my wife had decided to become a Jehovah's Witness (no holidays) and and turned it into a cold winter day without music, decorations batteries or film in the camera. A few years later she left me for some bar slut and celebrated the kids birthdays with him instead. The kids thought he was great.Of course she did too. Since then Christmas has never been the same. Right now it's just seeing my parents survive another holiday season into the next year. Christmas has been getting to be only for the rich people.Reality has it's way of soaking in.I still like to watch Claymations Rudolf the Red-nose Reindeer though. It was a ritual for me when I was a kid. Now I have the Tape. I like to think that one day it will be more like a real old time Christmas. Kids stuff has become waaaaaaaaaaay too expensive. Ohhhh poop.

The thought of Christmas is good, the family, the sharing of time and most are a bit more joyous of heart, but being alone, or worse yet, having a family that doesn't care or come by is the pits. If we all made the gifts by hand and could change things back to a more simpler time, and take the commercialism away, maybe you and many more would place a more value in your Christmas. Yes, the timing is wrong and it never says to celebrate Christ's birth, just His death, it's a European holiday that was brought here from our ancestors and expanded upon. if you can, think of your best Christmas ever as a child, it is a good time to recall those days of play and less responsibility. Many parents today and all the step parents, broken marriages, stress and responsibilities make us too busy, too much pressure to say to ourselves we must give to my child whatever they want and I can afford. The guilt in Christmas is striving to buy approval, and not having someone else give a better gift than yourself. And when the excitement dies out, the purchases are returned for refunds or credits, we see the useless point of it all. If each one of us, took just a small percentage of what we spend on gifts, we could feed millions that need a hand. Have a nice Christmas. Oh, if you do what I do you may get more out of it, you having children is hard, but have them participate in this. I locate Filipino children that have never had a Christmas in their lives, or if so a very limited one, I pay for the orphange or parent to get them on line after I ship their specialised gifts there, and I schedule and watch on cam as they open their present. If you want to get the feeling in your heart of Chrismas reborn, watch a little girl as she opens her gift of her first doll ever.

Well I don't hate Christmas but sometimes it's tiring everyone asking what you want for Christmas and everything but it's not totally bad! It's a day of celebration! But after Christmas, uhhh a pain in the neck! I mean reaching to get stuff off the Christmas tree! That's like the part I hate! Everything else is fine to me! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, just not all the parts of it!

No! I love spending time with all of my family members at Christmas, esp those who live out of state and we only see at Christmas. I love buying the food preparing it. Who cares how much $$ is wasted, I've had a good time with friends and family, and watched people smile and have a great time. who can beat that? I enjoy watching people have a great time!!

start making it more simple..stop wasting money..stop wasting food...kids have got to appreciate holidays it's a time for families to get together..not spending money on your loved ones...
This year instead of a big Christmas...we are going on a holiday instead.. in the spring ..the whole family..much better than presents and garbage..we are still doing dinner and having a tree (tradition)

Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I think your missing the entire point of the season. Just becasue some people choose to make it overly commercial doesnt mean you have to. Its not about gifts and over doing it on the food. If thats what it is to you then maybe you need to rethink how you go about celebrating the holiday season.
