ok here are more details
my laptop won't start so i removed the hard drive
i bought an enclosure and put the hardrive in there
i hooked the enclosure to my computer via USB port
It showed up as drive F
Tried to access my folder, but it said access denied
i believe thats because my account was password protected
so.... I want to boot it up and change my account so i don't need a password to login
and then... I can access my files.

Thanks!

Did you remove the hard drive that is already on your desktop PC, if not and you don't want to remove then you need to change the jumper setting on ur desktop computer's hard drive. By default it is set to Master and if you remove the little black pin at the back of the hard drive it will become cable select. It is best to make it Slave manually.

You need to open the cpu and take a look at the back of the hard drive where the cables are connected, you will find tiny black pin that is connected, if you remove it, then your computer will not boot from this hard drive and will boot from your laptop's hard drive but i have a question, how did u connect you laptop's hard drive to ur desktop pc coz the cables are different. If you have connected via usb then you can't boot from it.

I hope you used an adaptor to hook it up to your laptop. Two different connections all together. No way to boot to that drive. Sorry. What are the jumper settings on the laptop drive? If you set it to slave the drive MAY show up as another drive like E: or whatever is available. Keep us posted.
