I think thats a problem lots of people have, not only with shimmery gloss but also lipstick. You have some options. There lipgloss on the market that has special vitamins in their gloss. Try some of those lesser known lipgloss companies, that have Vitamin E or honey. There are also Lip Balms (like chapstick) that protect your skin and at the same time give you that glossy look. A makeup artist once told me to look in drugstores for the lesser known ones like vaseline, which do provide a glossy look. There are brands like chapstick (though lesser well known) that are made from shea butter, honey, and natural ingredients rather than chemicals like most. Otherwise, do what I do- wear chapstick on your lips first, and then with your fingers apply lipgloss. This way you control how much you apply (so it doesnt look tacky) and your protecting your lips at the same time.

Wow, toughy... I can`t pick ONE, but here are some of my top cheapies: Carmex Gloss in any flavor. Like $2 I think. Great moisturizer. Avon Lip Plumper. They are $7 but are often 2 for $8 Loreal Color Juice, I THINK they are like $5 Most GOOD glosses are at least $6 or $7

Yes I have that problem of being highly dependent on lip gloss or chapstick.
I like Lip Smacker by Bonnie Bell. It's got a hint of color and shimmer, doesn't dry up, and it smells good! If I use other products for color, I use this one on top of it for moisture. I also like Cover Girls Wetslicks (or Wetsticks, not sure), also color, shimmer, doesn't dry up, and smells good, but it doesn't stay on as long. Neither of which, make you look like a hooker unless you get the Cover Girl darker colors .

I have the same problem, but here is what I do:
1) every night, apply a heavy lotion to lips, let soak in, then chapstick.
2) reapply lotion in morning before makeup
3) ALWAYS! use chapstick before any gloss or lipstick. You can apply with fingers or brush for better coverage.
*Tip: try a beewax based chapstick, and warm it before you apply.

Sounds like you are allergic to an ingrediant in the lip gloss....avoid it because allergies do get worse with each exposure. Stick with the chapstick.

You can use both. If you condition your lips with the chapstick and apply the gloss afterwards, i think you will say that your lips are not as gross.

i would choose the chapstick. if i had to go with the glittery stuff, then i would wear chapstick with lip gloss over it...maybe i would go for a different brand until i found the right stuff!

wear whatever works for you. Not all chapsticks are for everyday. Also, sometimes lipgloss causes you to lick your lips and they become chapped. you need a really moisturising lipgloss or chapstick makes one and carry it and reapply when it wears off. If it's drying don't buy it again. There are good and bad products out there. Good luck, make sure it's moisturizing.

you should apply chapstick first and then apply lip gloss, plus switch to a better brand...wet n wild and smackers are absolutley not the way to go!
