Sound like you aren't ordering in a Coffee house. What you're getting is as close as most fast food or restaurants can get. Try Sarbucks or like ilk.

you need to find a place with espresso on the menu or all they have is dirty water coffee. seek out non-american places or coffee houses. most restaurants will not cater to your espresso needs.
