I used a calculator but need to know how to do it by multiplying out the bracets or using bodmas

Sure, I'll help you. You need to work on the interior parentheses first, then move to the outer. Also, you multiply before adding or subtracting. So here's the steps:

8[8+(2-1)*6+(3-1)]

First do the (2-1) and (3-1) to get the following:

8[8+(1)*6+(2)]

If there's only one thing in a parens, you can remove the parens:

8[8+(1)*6+2]

1 times anything is just that same anything, so you can remove the (1)* as follows:

8[8+6+2]

Now add up what's in the brackets, to get

8(16)

And now you just have 8 * 16 which is 128

Hope that helped!

First do the parentheses inside the brackets: (2-1)=1; (3-1)=2

Cross out the 2-1 and 3-1 and write these answers above the crossouts

Next inside the brackets do the multiplication: what is now 1 times 6 which is 6

Cross out the 1 and 6 and write 6 above

Now add all the things in the brackets: 8 + 6 + 2 is 16
Cross out all the stuff in the brackets and write 16 over it

Finally multiply 8 by 16 and get 128

The rule is to first work on the stuff inside the paranthesis. Once all the parenthesis are finished, work on the multiplication/division next and then finally the addition/subtraction.

So first step is to work on the parenthesis:
8[8+1*6+2]

Now you need to work out the stuff inside the brackets. Remember do the multiplication first:
8[8+6+2]

Now finish adding the numbers in the bracket
8[16]

And now you finish by multiplying the two numbers
8*16 = 128

do the bracket bit first i.e work out 2-1 and 3-1 giving
8[8+(1)*6+(2)]
then do 6*1=1 giving...
8[8+6+2}
then work out this bracket (BODMAS) giving...
8[16] = 8x16 = 128!

8[8+(2-1)*6+(3-1)] = 128
8[8+(1*6) + 2] = 128
8[8+6+2] = 128
8*16 = 128
