INTO the contractile vacuoles

It is osmosis. The contractile vacuole pumps sodium ions into the vacuole. That makes the concentration of stuff in there greater than in the cytoplasm, and so water moves across the membrane by osmosis.

If you are living in salt water, it's highly likely you are getting dehydrated from the osmosis of water from within your cells into the surrounding salt water. You don't need to add onto that problem with contractlie vacuoles because you need all the water you can get!
