Nails grow at an average rate of 0.1 mm/day (1 cm every 100 days)
Fingernails require 4 to 6 months to regrow completely. Toenails require 12 to 18 months. Actual growth rate is dependent upon age, season, exercise level, and hereditary factors.
If your nails are growing too slowly, it may mean other problems. This growth record can show the history of recent health and physiological imbalances, and has been used as a diagnostic tool since ancient times.[2] Major illness will cause a deep horizontal groove to form in the nails. Miscoloration, thinning, thickening, brittleness, splitting, grooves, Mee's lines, small white spots, receded lunula, clubbing (convex), flatness, spooning(concave) can indicate illness in other areas of the body, nutrient deficiencies, drug reaction or poisoning, or merely local injury. Nails can also become thickened (onychogryphosis), loosened (onycholysis), infected with fungus (onychomycosis) or degenerative (onychodystrophy)
Hope that helped nail your question... ;)

I am a working male who do a lot of maintenance and I have to cut my nails every 2 weeks. So that is about 1/8 th of an inch in 2 weeks. It does grow slow, just like hair.

A special growth area (called the matrix) at the base of the nail controls the speed of the finger nails’ growing. The matrix lies in a deep groove in the skin dermis (the thick inner layer alive with nerves and blood vessels) and makes nail material—a dead, hoof-like protein, called keratin. It makes nails constantly—from birth to death—at an average rate of 0.004 inches (0.1 mm) each day, or 1.5 inches (36.5 mm) in a year.

It's like waiting for the kettle to boil. If you walk away it'll boil quicker (or seems to). If you stand and wait for it to boil, it'll take forever. Same with you nails. If you make out you're not interested, you'll look at them one day and they'll be talons!
In the meantime, if you're really desperate, buy some false ones to stick on.

Try Sally Hansen growth treatment. I like the pink one best. (Age correct). Apply 2 coats and you can almost watch you nails grow and they don't chip or break.
