I was treated unfairly at work (the maintenance man disciplined me and talked to me very rudely, and I am supposed to be second in command) and I complained to our corporate office. My boss did not support me, but instead protected the maintenance man. If my boss finds out I called corporate, can she fire me? Am I protected under the "whistleblower laws"?

Whistleblower laws only protect people who are reporting illegal activities to the government.

There is nothing ILLEGAL about your boss and the maintenance worker being buddy-buddy and looking out for each other. You didn't say what the maintenance worker disciplined you for. I assume since you used the word "discipline" that you were indeed, "in the wrong", and in fact, probably doing something you werent supposed to do. For example, using a computer inappropriately for Yahoo Answers instead of working. Or just being lazy and not doing something. So he disciplined you... so you got your pride hurt... and you cried about it to your boss, who had no sympathy for you. Sucks for you.

Next time, don't give the maintenance worker a chance to discipline you. Do your work in such a manner than someone as low as a maintenance worker won't HAVE to discipline you. If you're in such a high position, you shouldnt worry about being "second in command" and just be getting your job done. I don't think many CEO's or managers of major companies actually sit down and count out how far from the top of the food chain they actually are.

So stop whining and get to work.

yes he can, but that is a risk you take,

But honestly if you are really the second in command, why did you let a mainteance man treat you rude.

You stop him on the spot and you order and tell the maintance person to stop that. You write the maintanice person up.

If you can't be a boss, then you will always be walked over, You can;t make someone else make you a boss, you are a boss only if and when you can hold yourself up that way.

Leave a message with their boss. Since they are coming in in short within the night time their boss would comprehend for the reason that it appears like they are best coming to examine on matters, and NOT to paintings a shift.

If I understand correctly, whistle-blower laws are to protect those who report illegal business dealings to law enforcement officials.

It does not look like you contacted law enforcement officials, only went over your boss's head to complain. I don't think you have any legal protection.

They can't fire you and IF they would, I would fight it. A similiar situation happened where I worked and someone I knew called the corporate office about a certain problem with the managers. The managers knew he was "backed up" and never fired him.

Well hes not legally allowed to fire you, mind you I said legally. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an "unrelated" issue that will come up in the near future that will warrant your termination.
