addressing the issues that cause such controversy in the WC. Do we need to introduce technology into the game to some degree or not? What are your solutions ?

Sorry Deamon...I was just thinking after Emma's Question about all the controversial decisions, the refereeing, rules etc..do we leave it the way it is and keep complaining about controversial decisions or do we change things and use modern technology..we can't have it both ways I guess ..

Bou..we have that benefit, replays. What I'm asking is do you think the referees should have too.

I see your point, trying to minimise the human error. But I also get that FIFA is reluctant to depend wholly on technology to overseer the games. It should play a role only in disputed decisions, not serve as wholly a substitute.

There is a real danger in replacing a significant amount of responsibility on technology. I understand and agree that the use of instant replays would serve as a hundred eyes, but there's a reason referees are placed on the field.

Though we always strive for perfection, we must understand at the same time that we live in an imperfect world. We also live in a world where technology is rapidly advancing and evolving. I think that technology should be used as an accessory when so needed, and should not serve as a significant replacement. The earpieces facilitate effective communication, and instant replays should be utilized where there is a decision in dispute whereupon the ref would confirm or revise his decision after consultation with his assistants. A special pannel would not be wise, as we must remember that the game must go on which would dfictate the need for a speedy resolution.

Any other matters of concern will be dealt with post game by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

Hope i've helped!

Yes, professional football needs better technology (such as replays for game officials as well as the general audience, maybe even smart ball tags which indicate whether or not a ball has passed the goal line) in order to settle controversial decisions from half-drunk referees. But you have to admit, as one poster said above me, that these "bad calls" give the game a touch of stigma and excitement that only football can summon.

Yes but only for penalties, there should be a special group of judges who would review the referee's decision with video replays, it would take only 10 - 20 seconds, they should decide it if it's a penalty or not and notify the referee, people thinks that video replays would effect the game but sometimes ( 85%) the match is stopped because of a player's fake injury more then 30 sec and doesn't effect the game!!!! Maybe this way players wouldn't dive so much, because they would know that is no point !!!

The 4th official can maybe have access to video and replays and like the EPL Referees, have headphones so the officials can communicate at all times. Video replays and video evidence will kill the flow of the game. Human error is inevitable no manner what FIFA tries to do unfortunately Andy!!!

Hey have you heard that Sepp Blatter has apologised to Australia and the FFA for the referring error that awarded Totti the penalty against Neill!?!
This is an article about the story

I don't really agree that he should have apologised, whats done is done and its in the Aussie nature to look ahead not back and if anything I honestly thought he would apologise for Graham Poll until I saw Totti's picture!!

hard to say,.,.why?......because keeping the game the way it is keeps it original, which is great.

but with technology, their will be no "bad" calls and the game will be seen perfectly....

i'm not sure what to do.....i hope the decision never becomes mine, i say..."LET THE PLAYERS PLAY"!!
