Maybe it was too hyped up, maybe we all expected a lot from it, maybe we should remember Caroline Aherne bowed out of doing work and had a breakdown and has taken real guts to get back and try her hand at it again. I enjoyed it and I'm just sorry some of you didn't seem to.

The Royle Family wasn't always a laugh-a-minute anyway. It was a microcosm of a family focused on their life in the front room and there were tragic moments and hilarious moments, just as there were tonight. Coming from the North West myself, I certainly recognise a lot of the characters, comments, reactions and habits shown in it which maybe makes it the funnier.

There were some truly funny moments in tonights show in addition to the obvious (and gut wrenching) pee-bag emptying over the dishes in the sink - like Denise's explanation as to why she doesn't wear false nails: "I've too much to do and they slow me down and get stuck in the remote", and the sight of a row of a***s laying the laminate, the vision of people being laminated, Jim being unusually nice to our Ant'ny only to tap him up for some cash, the one after one questioning "are you awake nana?", Cheryl's blind dates (imagine going on a first date and being taken to their neighbours), the plate full of penguins at the wake....maybe in the intervening years you've all just grown nostalgic and missed some of the humour. And there was, of course, the sadness of nana dying - something that Liz Smith had apparently wanted to do; she's in her 80s, and maybe wanted the opportunity to bow out of something on TV with dignity and style. The humour and irony of the show brought us through it though when her urn was proudly placed on top of the TV (which we all surely guessed was gonna happen?).

Still, my dad's with you - he didn't think it was as funny as it used to be, he just happens to be outnumbered by me and the rest of the family.

I couldn't work out how Deal or No Deal, The Simpsons, and Graham Norton were all on at the same time!
It was a bit boring, but I found the nana bit quite moving.

not me,i was very impressed,it was so funny, but when it come to nannas death, there werent any jokes off jim and the music made it very sad,if you havent got a care in the world,or lost a loved one, then you wont understand why tonights episode was so sad.cant wait to see if there is a new series.

It was great, not very funny, just sad! I was kind of excited to be getting to watch some great comedy and end up crying! Whats up with that? Still brilliant though, if a little unexpected!

ME! Glad I'm not the only one who didnt enjoy it!

Glad it was the last one ever too, coz they have totally lost it! The jokes seemed really staged.

(I agree with Itchy. The bag emptying made me laugh and I was touched by the bit with Nana thanking her daughter. But the rest of it was pants!)

I still enjoyed it. It was not as good as before, but that would have been difficult to achieve. I still think Caroline Aherne is amazing.

Was expecting a really good show but was sadly left cold. Sad but they never quite made the come back 'one off' in my opinion.
