Tidal power is very efficient because the sea’s tides and waves are reliable and predictable unlike wind power. The energy is created when the waves push air through tubes moving turbines, this process is non stop twenty four hours a day, the energy source is free and also like hydro power has no harmful emissions or waste.

If you'd asked me this question 3 months ago, I'd have said it's not much use, there are very few places suitable and it's very unfriendly to the environment. But there's been an important development since then. I live in the far south of NZ. A friend of mine lives on Stewart Island, where their electric power is produced by a 1.2 MW diesel generator. He's pushing for a tidal generator. The Canadian firm in Vancouver which builds them say they can supply one for about the same price as the existing diesel installation. It consists of vertical-axis turbines on the sea floor which look a bit like egg whisks. They generate power on both the ebb and flow tides. There's a lull of about 30 minutes at the turn of the tides, so you need a small amount of storage. The only two tidal power stations until recently were tidal dams on the Rance River in France and in Nova Scotia. Stewart Island gets tidal flows of up to 8 knots.

Tidal power is a renewable source of power from shifting water. The power from tidal power is the comparable undertaking as the different power source, mutually with photograph voltaic power, hydro power, or the burning of coal. Tidal power's shifting water turns generators, which make electricity. electricity is the muse of all 'power' right this moment. We use each and every thing we count electricity on, from tidal power, nevertheless in easy terms a small fraction of the international has the perfect environment to create tidal power. as quickly as returned, power from tidal skill is like countless different power source, because of the fact all of them convert into electricity.
