#2 is about right but i would avoid welding cable. use something meant for the job. engine cables in a boat live a tough life and 25 ft of the good stuff isn't going to break you.

For best results use AWG#2 size welding cable but did you know the high price of copper these days really have driven up the cost.

No smaller than a 10 gauge.
