The real question is what are the security threats to America and what are the most effective ways to deal with those threats. The usefulness of a hearts and minds operation is debatable. The military should not be deployed as social workers. The job of the military is to kill as many of the enemy as possible until the enemy is unable to wage war. If that is not the mission then the troops should be withdrawn to strategic bases and kept in readiness.

Absolutely! Our "free press", which now makes money off of scaring us, continues from the changes on news reporting from the Vietnam era (previously a free public service). That's why Fonda and Kerry are on the heroes wall of N. Vietnam. The Tet offensive was not a failure as described by our trusted Walter Cronkite—but he made it so. The President of North Vietnam said that they would have folded if there was not such evidence that the U.S. citizens would not persevere. It would be so refreshing if someone would not be afraid of debate and judgment and could ask a question beyond, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" Feelings are interesting, but facts and perspective are a better source of guidance. What would happen if we, at this time, withdrew from Iraq?

Simple answer based on what has happened, is happening and logic:
The war was a BIG mistake. There were no WMD and no link to Al Qaeda!
If we leave now, Iraq is doomed. We need to rise up to our mistakes and rectify the situation by helping Iraq become a country once again. If we leave, they are doomed. Civil war followed by the division of Iraq into 3 countries. We Must accomplish our mission, our credibility is on the line and we owe it to the Iraqi people and to our soliders.

you do not want a debate. do you want ideas? do you want the whys we should or should not be? one yes one no will not satisfy as the best answer. i will give you a brief --answer not in the form of yes or no. it all depends who you are? Muslim, from irak or from other parts of the Muslim world. from USA? or other parts of the world? if you suffered directly or indirectly via Saddam Hussein and a multitude of similar questions. all this combined will give you a mi-sh mash of yes and no. conclusion there is no easy answer to your question. and i rest my case.

No!
If we leave now there will be a civil war there.
If we leave in ten years there will be a civil war there.
The only difference is, the longer we wait, more people will be killed.
