I was reading a few customer opinions on various sites about LG refrigerators, and most of them did not sound too good. Some people were saying that the refrigerator's compressor failed, although LG has a 7-year warranty on it now. The people at Best Buy convinced me that they are actually some of the best refrigerators out there, so I bought one, confiding in their word. I still have second thoughts, and I was thinking about finding out more while I still have the chance to take it back. The reason why I did buy it so fast anyway was because I really need a new refrigerator, and I don't have the money to throw away on a temporary one, so I decided to get something that seemed good.

About Stephen C's answer: The Best Buy salesmen who sell these do not receive a commission, so no matter if the sell the fridge or not, they're still paid the same way.
Also, the fact that LG itself will fix my refrigerator and not Best Buy is a good thing, because Best Buy probably does not have the parts or knowledge necessary to repair a fridge made by LG.
And about the thing where you said that the industry is going from a 5-year warranty to a 1-year warranty on a sealed compressor...I don't know what you mean by that. I don't want to sound naive, but I don't think the salesman lied to me when saying about the warranty on the compressor. Even when asking me if I want a service plan on it when I was buying it, he said that it comes with a 7-year warranty on the compressor anyway, fact that I don't think was in his interest necessarily because they want to get as much money out of your pocket as possible. I'm positive they wouldn't have the courage to lie & hope to get away with it.

well LG's parent company is Samsung and Samsung is very good, the difference is that Samsung is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 korean. LG is completely korean. LG's perform well and are tested extensively yet they do not last well they have had many reals with the refrigerant, chemicals escaping into the cooling tub, bay. I would spend another 5-750 on a Samsung or Maytag macause they certainly last much longer

Unfortunately there is a good chance you dove headfirst into the swimming pool before looking to see if it was filled with water. Experience compels me to say 'The pool has water, it's just a foot deep'.
Fact: LG is a new manufacturer. No past history to draw from. Bad news for the consumer. They're now getting rich selling a very expensive product.
Fact: Of course Best Buy is going to say 'they are actually some of the best refrigerators out there'. Shoot, they want to make money. I'd say it too if it meant putting food on my table and a roof over my head.
Fact: A 7-year warranty (a limited warranty ... trust me) means BEST BUY is not responsible for the repairs. LG is. Best Buy is only responsible for calling the service department, whomever that may be. Worse, no one will be able to tell you who that servicer will be.
Fact: The industry has gone from a 1-year return policy to a 1-month return policy. Yes, ONE MONTH. After that, it's yours, come he** or high water.
Fact: The industry is going from a 5-year warranty on the sealed system (compressor) to a 1-year warranty. Check back into this statement and do NOT take the word of your sales person. The last thing they want is a return.

I have a subscription to Consumer Reports and the overall rating of various models of LG that I found were very good. On a scale of 1-100 they were between 68-70.

The brand and model that CR recomends as the best buy over all is the Kenmore (Sears) 5666[2], with a rating of VG (78).

It appears that your LG is a top quality applience. If you email me the model # of the one you have, I will look it up. Sometimes different models in the same brand can be good and others bad.

The first two reviewers don't know what they're talking about. LG is fully Korean and is the largest Korean rival of Samsung, not 1/2 owned by them. They've been around for a long long time, even in the US, although under their prior name (Lucky) Goldstar they weren't known for quality. I'm not sure if the quality had improved 8 years ago when this thread was started, but fortunately they seem to be high quality now.

For an LG that is a very good price. I d guess last years model but if it carrys all the warranties , which it should,it s a buy. A bit small (we went with a 27c/f Samsung) but it it works for you, go for it. GL
