I'm looking into buying a used car and I found one with automatic transmission that I really liked...but this was on the "cons" list:

"Needed mechanically: differential and spider gears replaced/rebuilt in tranny or a used/rebuilt transmission installed. Car starts right up, however will not go into gear."

Since I don't know enough about cars, I have no clue what this means... can the car drive? Because since it's automatic transmission, I have no clue what "gears" has to do with this statement... Since I know people out there are much smarter than me, I would really appreciate your help~ Thanks!

If youre willing to invest that much more into the car after you buy it, probably in the range of 800 to 3000 dollars depending on where you get the transmission from. Is the deal youre getting worth it??

Not a driver this car needs Major work, a rear axle rebuild and a replacement automatic transmission. Yes gears here are between the rear axles. And No automatic transmissions have gears too mostly called planetary gear sets. Stay away unless your dad uncle have extra car just like it to rob parts from to fix this car.

It means it needs work on the automatic transmission. The gears are part of the transmission, so it sounds like this car needs expensive work on it before you can even drive it. Find another one!

No, the car will not drive, because the transmission is bad, and it is going to cost any place from $ 400 to $ 1000 dolars to get a new transmission.

My suggestion, go to e reputable dealer, and look for a car you like, and buy it from him, because most reputable dealers will put a warranty on the car for a certain period of time or mileage, and if anything goes wrong with it they will fix it or replace it.

It means the car turns on but is otherwise a really heavy shopping cart that you will have to push around... its already had some transmission work but the gears need to be replaced.. I say look for something else.

You need to get somebody in the Know to check the car out, if it's had all that work done already then it' either very old or an ill-maintained junker.

It's easy. Unless somebody pays you money to haul that thing away, don't go near it. You'll pay somebody a fortune to fix that part just so you can find out what else is wrong with it.
