i don't think prison is intended to be the ultimate answer anymore, however dangerous people need to be removed from the streets otherwise anarchy!!

i think prisons are the answer! however they need to be made far more unpleasant so potential law breakers think twice about a life of crime!!

the more serious the crime, the less human rights should be applied within prison!!

basically i think law breakers should be made to suffer in a way that is befitting to their crime

Thr role of imprisonment is purely there to remove people from society and restrict their liberty here in the UK. It also re-inforces the public opinion if they see people going to prison, as opposed to a Community Sentence that may be effectively targetted to ensure that the criminogenic needs are met, e.g.alcohol misuse, substance misuse.

The sad fact is that you have to have commited a serious crime to get any benefit from prison whether that be programmes or education. If you commit a crime which means you are likely to stay in prison less than 18 months then you can be prepared for 23 hours in your cell and an hours exercise.

I don't know that there is a realistic option that will work for all people that offend, some really value probation input, whereas for others a stint in prison can be the scare that they need.

It poses the question as to whether there is any effective rehabilitation for hardened or prolific criminal??

Sorry i didn't answer the question but you made me think!!!

it doesn't matter whether or not imprisonment is the answer to society's problems. it's obvious if all the criminals were locked up. our homes and streets would be a safer place.

For all the murderers and paedophiles, i say go the American way, lethal injection, firing squad, i wouldn't mind. As long as the evidence was conclusive. A good way of not wasting money, but wasting wasters.
