CLIFFPOT--- Powel could have said that about any invasion. Many military men have said that in the past.

We have had to remain in every country we invaded. Except Vietnam. We are still regretting our loss there.
Were we wrong to invade Germany,Japan,Korea, etc. just for that reason?

You may dismiss the clean up as Bush's problem, but all Americans will be despised if we leave Iraq in a mess, and Americans may pay for that mitake.

IT was brave people like those soldiers in Nam who were the ones who finally defeated Communism.
Not the Jane Fondas or John Kerrys.

They don't realize that leaving now, no matter how much they think we shouldn't have been there, would cause more deaths than it would save

An excellent question. Perhaps we should have the morally pro war people do the work. Actually, according to the original plan, the army, once we had finished being celebrated by the now free Iraqis, was supposed to rebuild what we had destroyed during "Shock and Awe" days. Of course, oil was supposed to have paid for this war, and it shouldn't have cost the taxpayer a cent. And Halliburton and Blackwater would have been happy as clams, and all would have been well. Up until about a year ago I would have said that the least we could have done was repair the country, but now I don't care. If, after all, we can't repair our own South after Katrina, then how can I expect this bunch to be able to repair anything while getting shot at? Now, whether or not we will admit it before the election, they are at the beginning of what will be a long and nasty civil war, and we need to get out as, frankly, no one wants us there anymore.
BTW over 50,000 Americans died in Viet Nam, is that what you are looking for?

I find "morally opposed" to be an oxy-moron coming from democrats . Interesting enough , was former presidential candidate , John Kerry , morally opposed to the Viet Nam war - yet Kerry seemed OK with putting his morals on the back burner long enough to attend a meeting with other radicals on the left to decide whether or not to ASSASSINATE United States senators who were for the war . I 'm not bothered by democrats being morally opposed to anything because time & time again , morals don't matter to them unless it's election time- and then conveniently soon fade-unless the other side wins . . Some of the more ironic "moral" statements lately have been by Bill & Hillary Clinton -which , coming from those two is a scream .

I remember Collen Powell warning Bush about the planned invasion, "If you break it you fix it." I am wondering what the Republican agenda is in staying in Iraq. We get allot of tap dancing on the topic, but no hard answers. The invasion was a bad idea in the first place (it was the wrong target). Now that we are in there, do the Republican want it to become the 51st state in the Union? What is the point? If they are heading to Civil war, then it will erupt eventually when we do leave. There is no stopping a feud that has been suppressed for generations. It is going to burn one way or the other.

Most of the Dem anti-war types are left over hippies.
They can't have a summer of love anymore w/o Viagra, and they don't have enough hair to grow it long, but hey, there's a war and a Texan in the White House, sooooo......
When we pulled outta Vietnam the communists killed 3 million people in southeast Asia. Most people claim that the same thing will happen if we leave Iraq in the same way we did 'nam. No matter how you feel about the war, you can't just pull out and leave 3 million people to die.

I think if you invade a country using deliberately false information to gain support I would fired you and I would take responsibility to fix the problems you have caused. But I guess that's just me.
Kinda like if my sons breaks a window I would punish him but pay for the window.

So what are we fixing there now? If you look at Iraq's history, it's pretty clear democracy isn't going to take hold there. The damage has been done. Let's get out.

Repairing the damage? How do you repair the damage done to the poor families who's lives have been shattered by the slaughter of the their sons, daughters, husbands and fathers in this boondoggle war started by the corrupt megalomaniac we have in the White House?

Is staying going to result in less damage or more damage? I suspect it's going to be the latter.
